Why You Can't Turn Away from the Planned Parenthood Videos

by Options for Women on November 5, 2015
Have you seen the videos? You know the ones we’re talking about – the dozen or so undercover videos showing the horrors behind Planned Parenthood’s business model.
If you haven’t yet seen any of them, why not? We know they are hard to watch. They made us sad, angry and sick. But we’ve watched them. Why? Because they show the reality of abortion. They talk about and show pieces that make each of us uniquely human – our hearts, our brains, our livers, tiny fingers and toes.
To quote Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” And THIS matters. These lives matter.
What does it say about our society that we can so callously end one life out of convenience, fear, misguided thoughts about what is right, and then sell off their tiny body parts to the highest bidder?
Were the videos harshly edited to place Planned Parenthood in a negative light? Has Planned Parenthood stopped selling body parts? Quite frankly, the answers to these questions don’t actually mean anything to us. Why? Because it doesn’t change the fact that the end result of an abortion is the same.
Planned Parenthood is in the business of abortion, and that means they are in the business of taking innocent lives. Whether they further profit off of those lives shouldn’t be the main story here. Abortion has always been the story. It just took something as radical as selling body parts to get attention.
The other side would have you believe that the baby in the womb is nothing more than a clump of cells, not an actual individual life. But if it’s only a clump of cells, why then would Planned Parenthood find value in a heart, a brain, a liver? If it’s only a clump of cells, how could you even distinguish those parts from each other?
You can, because it’s not a clump of cells. It’s a LIFE. A life filled with potential. A life snuffed out too soon.
At the moment of conception, a life with its own unique DNA is formed. Eighteen days after conception, the little heart begins to beat. Seven weeks in to pregnancy, the brain and face develop rapidly. Nostrils form, arm buds sprout, and the lenses of the eye begin to form.
Eight weeks in, fingers begin to form. You can spot the eyes on an ultrasound, and the nose takes shape. At nine weeks, tiny toes form, and at 10 weeks, the eyelids begin to close to protect the eyes.
At 11 weeks, the genitals begin to develop, red blood cells begin to form in the liver. At 12 weeks, the fingernails develop and the 2 ½ inch long fetus looks decisively like a tiny human being.
All of this occurs during the first trimester, when the majority of abortions happen. And this is why we work so hard to serve women at risk for abortion. We believe every life has value. And we will continue to work as hard as we can to help women facing unplanned or crisis pregnancies see the beauty in the miracle of life.
And that’s why you can’t turn away from these videos. They are hard to stomach, yes. But they are the reality of what happens every day in abortion clinics around the country. More than 57 million beautiful lives have been ended since Roe v. Wade was legalized in 1973. How many more lives will end before we realize this barbaric practice only takes away life – it doesn’t improve life, it doesn’t make someone’s situation in life go away, it doesn’t make women equal to men.
So, we are asking you today to stand with us. Stand for life. Stand for those who can’t stand for themselves. Stand for the women who mistakenly believe abortion is their only answer.
Watch the videos. Discover the reality of abortion, and then shout from the mountain tops you support for life.
